Mexican Mint
The Casa de Moneda de México, established on May 11, 1535, by Spanish Viceroy Antonio de Mendoza, is the oldest mint in the Americas. Founded by decree from the Spanish Crown, it was built atop Moctezuma’s “Casa Denegrida,” the black house where the last Aztec emperor meditated, which was part of the Casas Nuevas de Moctezuma.
